Welcome to How To Use. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the How To Use mobile application and howtouseapp.com (together, the "Service"), provided by 185 Labs ("we", "us", "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
How To Use lets you take a photo of a product and receive an AI-generated description of what it is and how to use it, including suggested setup steps, controls, warnings, and care tips. Results are generated automatically and are not a substitute for the manufacturer's instructions.
2. AI-Generated Content and Safety
The guides produced by the Service are generated by machine learning models and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or wrong for your specific product. Always verify safety-critical information (electrical, chemical, medical, food safety, child safety, gas, pressure, heat, etc.) against the product's label and the manufacturer's official instructions before acting on it.
You use the information provided at your own risk. Do not use the Service to make medical, legal, or safety decisions without independent verification.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any law or the rights of others, including privacy and intellectual property rights;
- Upload images of other people without their consent, or images that are unlawful, abusive, or otherwise objectionable;
- Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or overwhelm the Service, or to bypass any technical limits or paywalls;
- Use the Service to build a competing product or to train another model;
- Submit content designed to manipulate the model's output, to produce harmful instructions, or to misuse the Service.
4. Accounts, Subscriptions, and Billing
The Service currently does not require an account. Some features require a paid subscription, purchased through Apple's in-app purchase system. All billing, renewals, and cancellations are handled by Apple under your Apple ID and the Apple Media Services terms.
Subscriptions auto-renew until canceled. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Refunds are at Apple's discretion; please contact Apple Support.
5. Your Content
You retain ownership of the photos you submit. By using the Service, you grant 185 Labs a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to process those photos for the purpose of generating your guide and operating the Service. We do not use your photos to train our own models.
6. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, text, and branding, is owned by 185 Labs and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service except as expressly permitted.
7. Third-Party Content
The Service may reference products, brands, or external resources that belong to their respective owners. Those references do not imply endorsement. Any external link is provided for convenience, and we are not responsible for third-party content.
8. Changes to the Service
We may update, change, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms; material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective" date above and, where appropriate, through in-app or email notice.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated guides will be accurate for your specific product.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, 185 Labs and its suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months preceding the claim.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the app. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or use the Service in a way that could harm us or other users.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where 185 Labs is established, without regard to conflict of laws principles. You agree to resolve disputes in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
